Noodle race in our Semi Annual Swim Competitions

“I believe everyone can learn how to swim regardless of their disability.”  A strong statement from one of the “water babies” at Leaps…n…Boundz, whose goal is to help special needs children learn to trust themselves in the water.

The swimming pool is a great environment for a child with special needs to establish new goals and successfully achieve them.  It is a low impact environment that is appropriate for children and young adults with a variety of disorders including, but not limited to; Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and Autism.  Children can see and feel themselves progressing.

Aquatic instruction for children with disabilities can also provide a multitude of benefits including, but not limmited to; increased range of motion, sensory stimulation, core strength and fitness, endurance and mobility.  Aquatic instruction can enrigh the lives of students by breaking through presumed limitations and creating an environment for each student to succeed.

Through positive attitudes, play and creative instruction, students can work beyond the boundaries and feel a sense of freedom and independence.
